Sharing Our Cultures Incorporated is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting intercultural understanding within a multicultural and bilingual Canada. Established in 1999, our projects, programs, and events engage culturally diverse school youth in activities that enhance academic, sociocultural, and employability skills while fostering respect, acceptance, and belonging in Canada.
Project Description
This project involves engaging high school youth from diverse cultural backgrounds—including newcomer, Indigenous, Francophone, and local youth—in researching and creating artefacts that represent their cultures. These artefacts will be showcased at an intercultural community event for schools and the public in May 2025.
Job Description
We are seeking a qualified individual for the part-time position of Project Coordinator for the 2025 Sharing Our Cultures program and events. The role involves working closely with Corner Brook Regional High School, under the direction of the CEO of Sharing Our Cultures and a Steering Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
• Engage school youth at Corner Brook Regional High in preparatory meetings and workshops
• Facilitate learning sessions for youth to research, write, and present exhibits about their culture
• Organize an intercultural event to showcase the exhibits and presentations
• Lead multicultural classroom sessions with Grade 6 students to prepare them for the event
• Coordinate with government departments and organizations to host information booths
• Design event programs and promotional materials for mainstream and social media
• Submit monthly and detailed final project reports to the CEO
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a recognized postsecondary institution or possess a combination of relevant qualifications and experience.
Requirements:
• Criminal Record Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Check
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience working with school-aged children, youth, and culturally diverse communities
• Demonstrated project and people management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with social media platforms
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of French is considered an asset
